Although not too hot, the weather was kind. The tide was in during early afternoon, making the harbour a glorious venue.
However, the event was relatively quiet early on, but during the evening the crowds swelled and the atmosphere was fantastic as usual.
Tenby’s 627th Mayor, Laurence Blackhall, opened the event. As usual, the first entertainment was provided by the popular young Irish Dancers, Seren. Their performance was again exemplary.
ocal children’s entertainer, Fergie, then engaged with the young girls and boys. Unfortunately, her daughter Chloe was unable to attend, but Fergie was ably assisted by Billy the Bear.
Matt the Magician captivated his audience, both young and old, with some very clever tricks and illusions, which were followed by an extremely entertaining Punch and Judy Show.
The first of the evening’s bands had travelled from mid-Wales having played two gigs at the Brecon Music Festival the day before. Universal Translators are an experienced three-piece and charmed all present with an eclectic mix of rock and roll covers spanning six decades.
The Pembrokeshire based headline group were The Stangs, formerly The Mustangs. Although still youngsters, they are a very tight trio who mainly play rhythm and blues covers at a very fast tempo, but they also performed several of their own numbers.
There is no doubt that The Stangs have a future and the large crowd were enthralled with their virtuosity.
The evening culminated with another magnificent fireworks display. Numerous visitors commented that it was without doubt the best that they had ever seen and they thanked Rotarians for a most memorable evening.
Members of Tenby Rotary Club wish to thank all those individuals and organisations which were involved with their two summer events this year to include the commercial harbour users and neighbours who suffer disturbance.
The profits from the two events will be combined with those generated by a Charity Golf Day in September and a Grand Fireworks Display in November, before being donated to many worthwhile local, national and international charities.
