Another south Pembrokeshire school is to close, it has been confirmed this week. Plans to close Pentlepoir School in August of next year and establish a new area school on the site of Stepaside School were agreed by members of Pembrokeshire County Council's cabinet on Monday. In a bid to strengthen and develop primary education provision for all pupils in the area and to address surplus capacity, director of education, Mr. Gerson Davies, will now launch a consultative exercise on the new school proposal. Cabinet members heard that Pentlepoir currently has 37 pupils, compared with Stepaside's 147, with the numbers forecasted to drop to 25 by 2010 - 23 per cent of the school's capacity. The proposals come in the authority's review of educational provision in the Tenby area which will also see the closure of Penally School.
