Dyfed Powys Police has launched a Christmas domestic abuse awareness campaign.

The campaign, which runs until January 4, aims to tackle the issue at a time of year when the force traditionally sees a rise in domestic incidents.

It includes posters, beer mats and discreet merchandise which will be given to potential victims of abuse.

Detective Chief Inspector Pam Kelly said: "The festive season is generally a joyous one for many people, but sadly the added pressures this season brings can often result in victims of abuse dreading the Christmas and New Year period.

"Our campaign aims to highlight the issue and reassure victims to come forward to seek help and support.

"We also want to send a message to offenders that if they commit domestic abuse they will be arrested."

The number of domestic incidents in the force area has reduced by nearly 27 per cent since March last year.

The force specially trains all officers on how to deal with domestic abuse and has domestic abuse officers who monitor all domestic incidents.

DCI Kelly added: "Our priority when we attend a domestic incident is to ensure the safety of any victim and any children.

"Domestic abuse covers a wide spectrum and doesn't have to include violence, if anyone feels they are the victim of abuse or if you are worried about a friend of family member please call the Wales Domestic Abuse helpline on 0808 80 10 8000."
