No cows, no sheep, one lone bull (a toy one!), plenty of horses and a throng of busy workers. This was the recent 56th annual Martletwy Show which was held for once on a dry and sunny day in our otherwise poor summer. The Cancer Research committee of Carew and Cresswell Quay had been making and collecting items suitable for sale on their extensive stall, where there was something for everyone. An early start was made, with everyone eager to set out the stall attractively, and when that was done, they waited with anticipation for the people to arrive. During the morning, there was a slow but steady trickle of people coming to see what was on offer. As the day progressed, more and more people came to look and buy. A raffle was held and prize winners announced. The first prize of money was won by Ann Fitzgerald. A further two money prizes were won by Morfydd Howells and Vera Thomas. Other prize winners were Ivan Thomas, Pam Davies, Mrs. Williams, Sian Mathias and Mary Harries. The prizes, as well as the substantial amounts of money, included wine, handmade chocolates, a tray, a tool set, a scarf and stationery. Thanks go to all those who donated these, and a big thank you to all those who worked and supported the event. The sum raised was a magnificent £990.25. This added to the money collected during the two days of August 15 and 16 outside Tesco, Pembroke Dock, which resulted in £915 in the collection boxes, gave a staggering total of £1,905.25 from the two events. Thanks also go to all the generous shoppers at Tesco, and to the management for allowing the collection there. If you weren't caught this time, perhaps the next time round!
