What a year full of successes for Park House Court Nursing Home, both as a business and for the team that care for the clients, ending the year with Recognition from Job Centre Plus as an 'Employer committed to employing people with disabilities'. During the year, Park House Court has continued to grow both in client numbers (now 97) and to meet their needs, staff numbers have increased to nearly 200. This was due to the new wing opening that would look after local residents; the Tenby Cottage Ward has 10 beds on the ground floor. Upstairs there's another 14 beds for those who need a greater level of care, including end of life (palliative care). More success came via Investors in People, as, despite the rapid growth, Park House was still able to demonstrate what was in place for staff development, and at all levels. This support ranges from aiding individuals with achieving their NVQ to post-graduate studies. The new Carers Career Path is seen as innovative, and it is believed to be the first in Wales. In recognition of this level of support, they also achieved the Employers Pledge. To allow themselves to put these initiatives in place, they sought external approval from several Examination Boards, and were pleased to receive approval from the British Institute of Cleaning Sciences that allows for a professional qualification for those who clean, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health for all their qualifications in food, safety and the environment up to and including Advanced (now called level 4). City & Guilds has approved Park House to deliver Care of the Elderly and Children at levels 2, 3 and 4, plus all the Key Skills qualifications and related technical certificates. They will also continue with nurse training, both student and overseas nurses, approved via Swansea University. Park House Court has always opened its doors to support others in a similar manner. This will continue with the enhancements outlined above, and individuals can attend courses, or an experienced and qualified trainer can visit other premises. Their employees have added to all this success by achieving their own qualifications in Professional Trainer, Supervisory Food Hygiene, First Aid, and Fire Safety, a variety of NVQ at levels 2, 3 and 4. Other qualifications achieved include Basic Skills Teacher, with two further professional qualifications commencing: Clinical leadership and M.Ed. development for all, at all levels within the business. The care home has always been proud of its carers who have moved on to nursing, which will continue to be supported.
