Rural Dean of Narberth, Canon Michael Butler, Vicar of St. Issell's Church, Saundersfoot and St. Elidyr's Church, Amroth, is celebrating his 25th anniversary in the parish. Canon Butler, who was ordained at St. Asaph Cathedral 41 years ago, was inducted at St. Issell's on August 29,1980. He followed in the footsteps of Canon Glyn Evans, who was then retiring after 25 years in the parish. Together, Canons Butler and Evans have served for half a century at St. Issell's, and together have served the Church in Wales for 112 years. Canon Evans was ordained at Bangor Cathedral in 1934. Incidentally, two of their successors at St. Issell's, uncle and nephew, Thomas and James Dalton, between them were vicars there for 112 years. Thomas Dalton began his ministry at St. Issell's in 1776, while James Dalton succeeded him in 1839. His time at St. Issell's ended in 1888. Canon Butler will be marking his silver anniversary at St. Issell's on Sunday, when Canon Evans, who now lives in St. Florence, will be joining him at the altar to share in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
