During the coming week the little chapel at Moreton will be celebrating 150th anniversary of Work, Witness and Worship.

It was consecrated and opened in October 1851 by a little group of devout Wesleyans who for 15 years had held house meetings nearby until the little homestead was unable to accommodate their growing numbers.

It was built on leasehold land belonging to the Lawrenny estate and came under the jurisdiction of Pembroke Circuit Methodist for the first 20 years.

In 1871 it formed part of the new Tenby Methodist Circuit the first of many ministers being the Rev. James Pearce, of Tenby.

Over the year it could be termed to be a family church, its members from the local mining and farming communities comprising of the Thomas, Owen, Davies, Griffiths John and Hilling families - many of whose descendants are still regular members.

It now forms part of the Pembrokeshire Methodist and URC Circuit and the superintendent minister is the Rev Anthony Gregory MBE, of Tenby.

A programme of events has been arranged for the week commencing Sunday, October 14 as follows:

Sunday, October 14 - 2.30 pm Sunday School Anniversary given by the Sunday School Scholars and leader Mrs. Janet John; 6 pm 'Songs of Praise' with Moreton Adult choir and invited guests. Chairman Mr. John Brock, of Carew.
