The crew of two of a yacht, in danger of being driven on to rocks in the darkness last Thursday night were rescued by RNLI Angle's all-weather Tamar class lifeboat Mark Mason.

The lifeboat was launched at just after 7 pm in response to a mayday from the 12m yacht, which reported her position as at the entrance to the Milford Haven Waterway and 'suffering a battering, and being driven onto rocks'.

Searchlights and multiple lookouts were posted as the lifeboat approached the entrance to the waterway, but nothing was located.

Once the lifeboat was clear of the waterway, a weak VHF signal was detected and the lifeboat was able to get a bearing using VHF DF.

The bearing was followed and the casualty was located in the tidal race south-west of Skokholm Island, some five miles away.

The yacht was in danger of being swept on to rocks, but the lifeboat passed a line to the casualty and towed her to the safety of Milford Haven.

The lifeboat, commanded by coxswain Andy Elliot, returned to her station at 11.50 pm, after being at sea for nearly five hours

With coxswain Elliot on the call-out were volunteer crew members Danny Richards, second coxswain; Rich Bowles as mechanic, Derek Richards, Sarah Lunn, Nigel Berry, and Gemma Howells.
