A 10-metre fishing vessel, struggling in difficult sea conditions off Skomer Island, was escorted to the Milford Haven Waterway by RNLI Angle's all-weather lifeboat on Saturday.

The Tamar class lifeboat, commanded by Coxswain Andy Elliot, was launched at 12.48 pm, at the request of Milford Haven Coastguard, to go to the aid of the vessel, which had two persons on board.

Once the lifeboat reached the scene, the fishing vessel made her turn into the sea and started her run for Milford Haven, with some challenging conditions off the west of Skomer.

The skipper subsequently decided to head back and anchor in the lee of the islands. but the seas were too difficult to turn the vessel back and it was safer to continue south-east before making a turn north-east into the Milford Haven Waterway.

After escorting the vessel safely into the Milford Haven Waterway, the lifeboat returned to her station at 5.15 pm.

With Coxswain Elliot on the call-out were Rich Bowles, Mervyn Lunn, Mark Roch, Jo Lynas and Nigel Berry.
