RNLI Angle's all-weather lifeboat was launched on Saturday at 1.15 pm after a 6.5m yacht ran aground near the entrance to Pennar Gut on the Milford Haven Waterway. The lifeboat reached the scene in 12 minutes. It was clear the yacht was hard aground on the mud, so the lifeboat's Y Boat was deployed to assess the situation and offer the one person on board any assistance. The yachtsman did not require assistance and, although he realised he had a long wait for his vessel to refloat on the tide, he had food and water on board. After recovering the Y boat, the lifeboat was released and returned to her station, arriving shortly before 2 pm. It was the second call-out in four days for the Tamar class lifeboat Mark Mason. The previous Wednesday, she launched at 9.15 pm to investigate a report of a red flare sighting up river towards Lawrenny, 10 miles from the lifeboat station. While underway, the lifeboat received reports of other sightings, all stating the same location. The Police RIB was also proceeding to the scene. As the lifeboat arrived, the Police RIB found evidence that a flare had been fired from one of the moored boats and, with further investigations, it was confirmed that it had been fired in error. With the Coastguards satisfied that there was no danger to life, the lifeboat was released at 10.05 pm to return to her station.
