Angle ladies craft group have held two fundraising events in the village hall to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. They had decided to support the charity this year after the passing of one of their members, Rosemary Newton.
The money was raised by selling arts and crafts, mainly produced by the ladies, and they also provided lunches, teas, coffee and cakes.
Linda Foulstone, one of the craft group, said: “Macmillan was a natural choice this year after we lost Rosemary. We all know the invaluable support they gave her and they will continue to provide for other people in the village in the future.”
Mark Newton, Rosemary’s husband, said: “The craft group were fantastic to us in Rosemary’s final months and I’m speechless as to how much money the girls have raised for such a worthy cause. We could not have coped without Sharon, our Macmillan nurse and it is therefore good to give something back in order to help and provide care for others in the future.” Mark continued to say that this was a fantastic result on top of the £1,300 that was raised from donations in lieu of flowers at the funeral.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Pembroke, Clr. Dennis Evans and Mrs. Rita Evans accepted a cheque for £1500 on behalf of MacMillan Cancer Support. Clr. Evans, a volunteer for the charity praised the example set by the community and the support given at a difficult time.
