A Saundersfoot couple have been angered and upset this week after a number of outdoor Christmas decorations were stolen from their garden.

The decorations were taken from outside Reg and Pat Hadfield's home in Westfield Road some time between 10.30 pm on Friday night and 8.30 the following morning.

For the last two years Reg and his future son-in-law Wayne have been putting out the decorations to delight Reg and Pat's grandson.

The decorations also bring a more welcoming festive feel to this area of Westfield Road.

"Most of the children from the two nearby housing estates pass the house either on the way to school or to visit the village," explained Reg. "The young children realise that when the lights start to go on in the village that Christmas Day is not far away.

"However, because of these Scrooge-like thieves, part of our garden will not now have a display," Reg continued. "It's not so much the cost of what has been taken, but the fact that what could have been a good festive display for the children has now been spoilt."

Reg added that the Father Christmas figure, which was among the items stolen in the raid, would not work as it had not been attached to its lighting system yet.

"That's the silly part about it," he said. "It can't be used to anyone's real enjoyment unless the other part, the lighting system, is purchased, which would be well over half the original cost of the figure.

"In some way, however, it is fortunate that the Father Christmas figure wasn't in working order when it was stolen, because if it had been tampered with while connected to the mains supply, it could have been very dangerous."

Reg said that the incident had now given him second thoughts about putting on festive light displays next year as the garden was easily accessible.

If anyone can assist in the recovery of the decorations, they are asked to ring (01834) 812991.
