A professional opera singer who has become a prolific artist and an artist whose popular character 'Mavis' has become somewhat of a favourite figure amongst her fans have each created stunning art exhibitions which are currently being exhibited at Picton Castle and Gardens near Haverfordwest. After graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music, Beth Robinson worked with many prestigious opera companies and, for many years with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Beth had to make a choice between music and art at the age of 11, but the lingering desire to paint never left her, and when she and her husband Alan moved to Pembrokeshire in 1997, it was not long before she devoted herself to a new career as an artist, and a few years ago, she was one of only 100 artists across Britain invited to take part in the prestigious Discerning Eye Platform 100 exhibition which was held in London and later toured through England. Her love for the rugged Preseli area and Pembrokeshire's striking coastline shows through her work, but she also has the inspiration of their two border collies, who have become something of a trade mark! 'Sometimes I struggle to keep up with all I am doing', says Beth, 'but when you are doing something you really want to do something that inspires you - it is so very worthwhile.' Picton are also delighted to welcome back popular Carmarthenshire artist Jayne Russell who exhibits her latest collection of charming and delightful watercolours. Always fascinated by old buildings, Jayne enjoys painting the hustle and bustle of our prettiest towns and villages in her unique picture book style. Alongside her popular and increasingly collectable bustling street scenes, castles, landscapes, seascapes and animals you will also find views of Picton Castle and Gardens throughout the seasons. However, her paintings with characters in them never fail to put a smile on people's faces. Visitors are now getting familiar with her work and try to spot 'Mavis' with her black cat - one of her regular characters to feature in her work. "Mavis is a busy little old lady - she likes to visit lots of places and you can often see her heading towards a pub!" explains Jayne. The art exhibitions by Jayne Russell and Beth Robinson can be seen at Picton Castle and Gardens near Haverfordwest until August 22 during normal opening hours, every day from 10.30 am - 5 pm.
