CHURCH House on Thursday will be the venue for a most attractive festive event featuring Wales's national instrument, the harp, and readings from Dylan Thomas.

After a finger buffet and a welcoming glass of mulled wine, guests will be treated to a short recital by harpist Jean Williams, from Nantgaredig, who holds the title Telynores Twyi, the highest Bardic honour, in recognition of her music.

After studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Jean's long career started with the City of Birmingham Orchestra, before she went on to became a leading figure in the musical lives of Glamorgan and then Carmarthenshire, both as a harpist and as a teacher.

In Jean's role as peripatetic harp teacher in both counties respectively she has seen a great increase in the fashion for harp-playing in Wales.

Jean's own music has taken her to platforms in Europe and Canada.

Jean is married to Heddwyn Williams who became a popular figure in Tenby when he opened Ocky White's Travel in the town.

Jean's recital will be followed by another Welsh treat when Pauline Allen and Laurie Dale read Dylan Thomas's short, charming and nostalgic 'A Child's Christmas in Wales'. Pauline and Laurie were part of the original Tenby Players, whose version of 'Under Milkwood' was revived in September, and which delighted audiences.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Saundersfoot committee of Macmillan Cancer Relief. Tickets are available from Dales' Music Shop, Tenby.
