Sir,
I am a resident of Whitewell Holiday Park, Lydstep. In the eight years I have been a resident, access to the coastal path and Lydstep Beach have always been by a path and opening directly opposite the entrance to Whitewell Holiday Park.
This summer, Lydstep Park, owned by Bourne Leisure, have fenced up the path refusing us access. We now have to walk either the road or the grass verge about 150 yards to the main gates of Lydstep Caravan Park.
Parts of the grass verge are on a slant and extremely dangerous, especially whilst damp. I have observed prams being pushed quite precariously on a slant. The sharp bend does not allow for cars to be observed from both directions.
The speed some cars manoeuvre around the corner is highly questionable. I have observed two cars plough up the grass verge into the hedge in the years I have been in Whitewell. Motorists do not expect to observe people walking the verge when they turn the bend. There is an accident here waiting to happen.
Lydstep Caravan Park should not have refused access to the path until slow signs were placed strategically, specifying that elderly and children were crossing the road at the sharp bend.
The majority of residents of Whitewell Holiday Park are either retired or have young families. Some residents of Whitewell have resided there for more than 20 years and have always gained access to the coastal path and beach directly opposite Whitewell.
I did inform the National Parks and they subsequently suggested I speak with the manager of Lydstep. This I proceeded to do to no avail. Please have your readers any advice they could share with us.
Jennifer Raynes,
on behalf of residents of
Whitewell Holiday Park,
Lydstep.
