Commenting on the possible merger of  local health trusts, Paul Davies, Preseli Pembrokeshire AM, said: "I have always campaigned against the merger of our local health trusts and will continue to do so. It could put our hospital services in danger by dispersing them across the old county of Dyfed.  "The argument for this centralisation of services has to do with economies of scale and saving money, but if these trusts are already in debt, then all that will happen is that they'll end up with one big debt." Angela Burns, AM for South Pembrokeshire and West Carmarthen, added: "The best way to cut down on bureaucracy in the NHS would be to have fewer local health boards, not fewer local health trusts. If the decision-making powers for Withybush Hospital are moved to a central point in say, Carmarthen, then we are in danger of losing services from Haverfordwest. We don't want to see anything that could take away power from our local trust."
