Major roadworks on the A477 are to continue next year, councillors were told at the October meeting of Amroth Community Council, held at the Parish Hall, Summerhill.
Carriageway recycling and resurfacing along the stretch of road between Pen-y-Bont and Broadmoor was due to commence on March 1, lasting approximately 25 weeks, and the work would include alterations to the layout of the Kilgetty/Stepaside junction.
Other items discussed at the meeting included:
Footpaths (to be renamed Rights of Way): The waymark on path number 42/43 at Elrose Cottage was still missing, despite assurances that it would be replaced, and there was a broken handle on bridle path CRB20. The clerk was asked to write requesting action on both. There would also be repeated requests made for a street light to be placed at the top of Trelessy Lane, Llanteg.
Llanteg: The council was told that Llanteg Common (the Claypits) and Village Green (the old parish field) had now been fully registered as common land. A letter had been received from the recently-formed Captain's Pond Committee, and following a discussion of the contents a reply would be drafted. On the matter of the old Mountain Chapel memorial garden, it was agreed that legal expenses incurred by the community council should be paid, and that an interpretative board relating to the chapel's history should be planned in readiness for the eventual handing-over ceremony.
Sustainable Housing Policy: Councillors heard of the need for affordable housing in he area, and it was suggested that they consider the problem of rising prices pushing out first-time buyers. The National Park had tried to introduce Policy 47, whereby new homes could not be built in the Park's area by people already living in a sustainable community, and councillors agreed that a policy regarding affordable housing must be developed.
Sewerage: As a development of recent consultations, surveys were now being conducted in the Wisemans Bridge/Stepaside/Pleasant Valley areas to ascertain the feasibility of installing mains sewerage. The council agreed that it would support an application to Welsh Water for mains throughout the whole community area, including Llanteg, where there was still an ongoing problem with sewage in the Llanteglos area.
Matters from previous minutes: The 30 mph road sign at Pleasant Valley had now been re-fixed, and a new nameplate would be erected to replace the missing one. Following a site inspection, dangerous stones had finally been removed from the roadside bank at Falcondale. Timber posts were now in place to prevent cars parking on the sea defences opposite the Amroth Arms, but some vehicles were still gaining access from further along.
Correspondence: A letter of thanks had been received from Ebenezer Chapel for the council grant of £90. At the Informal Communication Network meeting on November 12, representative councillors would be raising a number of questions, including the lack of street lighting and the growing nuisance of fly-tipping in the area.
Planning: Planning permission has been granted for Milton Farm, Llanteg; storm defence modifications at Wisemans Bridge beach; replacement and extension to agricultural building, Trelessy Farm, Amroth; carpentry workshop, Sea Breeze, Llanteg.
Planning permission has been refused for a replacement bungalow at Hazeldene, Pleasant Valley.
Planning applications have been made for electrical hook-up points for caravans at Merrixton Farm, Stepaside (Clr. George Jones declared an interest); domestic extension to Meadowcroft, Llanteg; change of use from garage reception office to shop at Wisemans Bridge Inn.
An appeal concerning the rear of Caldey View is being dealt with by written representation; and enforcement notices concerning Hafod Wen, Llanteg, are with solicitors prior to action.
The planning committee's decision regarding a dwelling plot adjacent to Pen-y-Cwm, Llanteg, has been deferred until receipt of amended plans.
Accounts: The council agreed to make a grant of £150 to St. Elidyr's Church, Amroth.
Any other business: The clerk was asked to write to Highways regarding the congestion caused by cars parked on both sides of the road at Pen-y-Daith, Pleasant Valley; and also to report that small cars parking inside the tunnel at Coppet Hall, Wisemans Bridge, were posing an obstacle to the access of emergency vehicles.
The next meeting will take place at the Parish Hall, Summerhill, on Thursday, November 20, at 7 pm.
