At the recent meeting of Amroth Community Council, held at Summerhill Parish Hall, clarification was made concerning the council's deferred co-option of a new member to fill the vacancy created by the death of the late Clr. David Wallace. This was because of the relatively short period before community council elections to be held next year, at which time a new councillor would be selected.

Items under discussion at the meeting included:

Footpaths: The National Park's officer had work in hand for the paths between Amroth Farm and Thane Cottage, and Colby Wood and Lower Pendeilo. The county council would be contacted to request clearance of the path from Ledgerland to Amroth front.

Highways: Road surfaces at Peggy Rogers Corner, Furzy Park and Rectory Hill had been patched with tarmac, but poor drainage on Rectory Hill was still causing concern. The county council were to be asked to replace the well door on the hill, broken off during hedge trimming some years ago. The council were also to be asked to cut back overhanging trees at Old Amroth Road, Llanteg, as well as the verges along the lane to Crunwere Church. Action was to be taken following inspection by a council representative at Dark Lane, Wisemans Bridge, where an over-bright light had been the cause of complaints.

Heritage Park: Planed requested a site meeting in September to look at the facilities with a view to developing a Son et Luminere attraction.

Llanteg: The road subsidence near the Village Hall had been attracting regular comment of Radio Wales. Council members were told that the problem had been caused by an underground stream creating a large cavity in the limestone. Llanteg Common (the old Claypits) the Village Green (the old parish field) may be eligible for registration as common land under The Commons Registration (New Land) Regulations 1969, as these two sites have been used for recreational and other pursuits for more than 20 years.

The clerk informed the council that a letter had been received from the resident of Sea Breeze agreeing to pay the costs of the redrawing of his boundary with the Village Green. With reference to the Captain's Pond at Llanteg, the council were shown a Statutory Declaration dated April, 1971, included among the deeds of the adjacent property, Awel y Mor, indicating the pond to be within its curtilage by adverse possession since 1959.

Members agreed that it was clear from this evidence that the pond was in private ownership and could not be adopted as common land, therefore the county council would be asked to stop mowing the grass, and the public bench would be re-sited elsewhere. It was also agreed that a gate was required at Mountain Chapel to stop livestock straying on to the memorial garden.

Sewerage: The chairman reported that a company employed by Welsh Water were doing a survey locally of septic tanks and usage.

Any other matters: The council accepted an offer by Mr. Alec Thompstone to share the cost of installing a picnic table on the green in front of Wesley Close at Pleasant Valley.

A glove dispenser for the removal of dog waste was to be fitted at the entrance to the path leading from Stepaside towards the old Grove Colliery.

Planning applications: Garage at 1 Morgans Way, Summerhill; Amusement with Prizes Permit at Amroth Castle; Stables for four horses at The Barn, Furzy Park; Change of use at Stepaside Inn from a public house and restaurant to private dwelling house, and also for the erection of four residential units on the same site.

Planning permission had been granted for a new bungalow at Pleasant Valley, and retrospectively for The Chalet, Pleasant Valley Bungalow, Valley Caravan Park.

The next community council meeting will take place at the Parish Hall, Summerhill, on Thursday, July 24.
