ON Friday, November 12, in the Millennium Memorial Hall in Laugharne, the dynamic Pembrokeshire choral group Tempus, under the musical directorship of Seimon Morris, are performing for the first time outside of the USA the cantata 'A Child's Christmas in Wales'. This poem by Dylan Thomas has been set to music and arranged for a mixed choir by the celebrated American composer Matthew Harris. The work was premiered in America in 2002. Matthew Harris is a musicologist and composer. Born in 1956, he has studied with Elliott Carter, Milton Babbitt, Roger Sessions and Donald Martino. He has been awarded many composition prizes and grants and is extremely excited that this work is going to be performed in Laugharne by a local choir. Tempus are honoured that Matthew Harris has arranged to be at their performance. This will be a flying visit by the composer arriving from his home in New York to attend the dress rehearsal and the performance before returning to the United States.
