The central and west regional director of the Welsh Ambulance Services has given assurances this week that the ambulance station in Tenby will continue to remain in the resort.
Mr. Richard Lee confirmed that there were no plans to alter the provision of ambulance services in Tenby, allaying fears from local county councillor Michael Williams who has been seeking assurances over the future of the facility which is located at the town's Salterns site.
"It is critically important that this station is retained, there is great concern at the present level of ambulance cover, which often sees no vehicle available between Pembroke Dock and Carmarthen," commented Clr. Williams.
"What compounds the problem is the reduction in after-hours GP care which has occured in recent years. This in itself is putting the local ambulance service under increased pressure.
"With an increasing elderly population, together with a very large increase in population during the summer months, a locally based, fully manned station is critically important," he continued, also posing the question to the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, as to whether the present ambulance Control Centre in Carmarthen would remain and not be relocated to Cwmbran.
A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust confirmed that there were no plans to alter the provision of ambulance services in Tenby.
"Tenby continues to be one of the Welsh Ambulance Services' priority areas for providing cover in Pembrokeshire," they said.
The spokesperson also said that the Trust's regional director had confirmed that he was not aware of any plans to re-locate the present ambulance Control Centre at Carmarthen to Cwmbran.
