Ambitious plans for the future of Saundersfoot's Regency Hall are to go on display later this month.

The hall's management committee will be holding a public exhibition on Wednesday, June 17.

Between 2 and 8 pm, members of the public are being invited to the hall at the village's King George V Playing Fields to view plans, drawings and artist's impressions for the exciting expansion and refurbishment scheme.

And the trustees look forward to receiving feedback from members of the public and existing user groups and organisations who are being invited along to see how the refurbishment will help them.

"We would be particularly pleased if any other groups or individuals who do not presently make use of the hall would come along to see the proposals and to advise us if they might in future use the new facilities," said secretary of the Regency Hall management committee, Haydn Williams.

"Saundersfoot has grown substantially in the last 50 years and the Regency Hall is in great demand," he continued.

"It has to be expanded to meet future demands, not only for the provision of new facilities, but to enable the existing users and hopefully more and more new users to enjoy the comfort and space they would expect in the 21st century."

The Regency Hall was erected in the early 1960s and is a substantial building which is home to numerous local organisations, large and small, as well as a venue for the popular 'Footlights' shows and many charity and family events throughout the year. From toddlers to senior citizens, the hall serves the whole community.

It is also home to the village's library and as part of the project, the management trustees have entered into arrangements with Pembrokeshire County Council to enhance the library facilities.

Furthermore, the building will be extended to provide further spaces for the provision of public access to new IT facilities. A new wing will be constructed to provide space for youth activities which are very much needed in the village.

"The county council is very supportive of the trustees' efforts, both in terms of capital assistance and also with advice and guidance from various council departments on grant applications," added Mr. Williams.

"The hard working citizens of Saundersfoot and its surrounds did a wonderful job in creating the hall nearly 50 years ago.

"The current trustees wish to build on their achievements by refurbishing and modernising the facilities, not just to make it more comfortable for its current loyal users who are drawn from all age groups, but also to expand its use by new users and in particular to provide the dedicated separate space for young people's activities from toddlers to older teenagers. To achieve these improvements, the hall will be substantially extended."

The trustees would also like to thank all those generous people who have contributed to the hall 'buy a brick' and other fund-raising projects.
