Ambitious refurbishment plans are in the pipeline for Saundersfoot's Regency Hall. Members of the hall's management committee are looking to extend the popular venue by building a two-storey extension to create a larger community library and IT room on the ground floor, with committee rooms above, as well as upgrading the current facilities. The project will also involve replacing the roof, altering the windows and improving disabled facilities and toilets, plus installing new lighting, flooring and sound system at the 45-year-old building. Already chairs have been replaced and Saundersfoot WI have donated new curtains, but now the committee is taking the scheme further forward and is in the process of drawing up a business plan, which once completed will be used to apply for grant funding in the region of £250,000 for the major work. A fund-raising appeal for the work, which it is hoped will begin in the next 12-18 months, is also being launched. A 'Buy a Brick' appeal is one of the main fund- raising schemes, with bricks costing £2 each. Any individual or organisation interested in buying a brick is asked to send their name and money to George Cavell, Tree Maru, The Ridgeway, Saundersfoot. Cheques should be made payable to the Regency Hall. A chart will be on display at the hall, with all the names written on each brick. It is also hoped local businesses will pledge financial assistance to the development as well. "The Bowling Club and Sports and Social Club have enhanced their facilities in recent years and we are now hoping to improve this complex further," said Howard Griffiths, management committee treasurer. "Last year, the hall was used for around 1,200 hours by 27 local organisations, and we are hoping that the project will not only benefit them, but also Saundersfoot itself."
