Ambitious plans for the possible redevelopment of one of South Pembrokeshire's most popular seaside villages have been revealed.
The creation of a new mixed use retail and commercial property development, along with a decked car park, a public space for commercial and community activities, a timber pier and boardwalk, beach facilities, including new toilets, plus more car parking created by decking over the sluice pond, with boat storage and additional parking below, are just some some of the ideas for new development at the heart of Saundersfoot.
There's also a proposal for a land train linking the centre of the village with Coppet Hall via the tunnels.
The proposals are the result of a study, commissioned by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government, looking at ideas for the regeneration of the village.
It was carried out by Powell Dobson Urbanists and the plans were exhibited at the weekend's St. David's Food and Craft Festival when people were invited to complete a questionnaire giving their views.
Said partner Martin Sullivan, of Powell Dobson Urbanists: "The exhibition illustrates a vision of how the village could develop with the right private-sector led investment and is the sort of approach the National Park and county council would like to see brought to the table - promoting quality, sensitivity and sustainability in terms of making the resort attractive to future visitors over a longer trading period."
He continued: "Success will rely upon local businesses working more closely together, combining their efforts and resources to greater effect under a banner of broadening Saundersfoot's appeal, but it will also rely on the support of the National Park, the Welsh Assembly and the county council in trying to help Saundersfoot promote itself differently."
