Tenby residents awoke to find a large, ambiguous message on the resort's South Beach on Friday.
The message, or sign, was a large star dug into the sand, with a circle connecting its points.
The star was a staggering 25-metres square, with the words 'open now' written in the centre in what appeared to be a luminous white.
One onlooker said: "I was walking my dog along the road above and happened to glance down and see this sign.
"I immediately called my husband to come and have a look as I thought it very strange sight at 7 am."
The only possible clue to solving this mystery came from Andrew McDonald, general manager of Heatherton Country Sports Park.
He made the following statement: "I was startled when I arrived at work on Friday. The Maize Maze manager greeted me with some unusual news regarding our field of corn maize, which has pathways cut into it to form a giant maze.
"He said that when he had entered the maze to set-up for the day, the pathways had all changed. I was informed that the alterations formed a star shape with what can only be described as a crop-circle in the centre!
"It would seem logical that these mysterious star signs are connected in some way. Some suggested that someone at Heatherton must have played this giant prank, others do not see this as feasible and have alternatively suggested an alien landing!"
Charles Davies, managing director of Heatherton, laughed: "It is even stranger as I am not aware that we have anything to do with this message.
"Quite often, people playing on the beaches will write and draw things, but it seems ridiculous at that time in the morning, and the changes to our maize field is simply baffling! I don't care who did it, but I'm glad they did - this is fantastic promotion for us!"
So the mystery remains - who dug out this enormous pattern in the sand? Was it just someone having fun on the beach or could it even be aliens?
