A YOUNG singer from Tenby has been given the big thumbs up by judges at a national talent contest.

Along with other impressive acts, Alice Christopher has made it through to the regional finals of the Open Mic UK 2011 contest and will now be performing at the competition's live showcases.

Open Mic UK 2011 is the exciting national talent competition which searches for the UK's best singers and songwriters of all genres, who perform either covers or original material.

Alice is now competing for a place in the national final at the O2 in London and the chance to grab a breakthrough recording contract.

With over £50,000 in prizes up for grabs as well, this year the overall winner of Open Mic UK 2011 will be offered a recording contract with up to £30,000 investment and also an opportunity to tour across the UK.

Thousands of hopefuls entered nationwide and hundreds of auditionees queued patiently on the day for their turn to impress the judges.

Those who made it through the audition stage will now take part in the live regional head-to-head battle alongside other talented performers in their area.

They will be performing in front of hundreds of audience members and a professional judging panel to win a place at the national grand final.

Alice's regional final will take place at the Coal Exchange venue in Cardiff tomorrow (Saturday).

Her performance will be filmed and will be on Youtube and Facebook shortly after the final and there will be a separate 'exposure award' presented to the act that achieves the most views on the sites.
