A Pembrokeshire County Council officer is getting on his bike this spring to help wounded servicemen and women.
Alastair Birch, community focused schools co-ordinator, will be taking part in a Band of Brothers Bike Ride for Help the Heroes charity.
The 43-year-old, who is a member of Tenby Aces Cycling Club, will ride 400 miles through the Normandy battlefields for five days in May.
The ride will commemorate the Allies' liberation of Europe 65 years ago.
"I'm a keen cyclist and have done smaller charity rides in the past, but I've always wanted to do something bigger," he said.
"Several of my family were in the services. One of my great uncles from Haverfordwest died in service and was buried with full military honours. I wanted to honour them, as well as help our current servicemen and women."
Around 300 cyclists are expected to take part in Band of Brothers Ride, which starts in Portsmouth on May 24.
They will then cross the channel to Cherbourg and, pedalling around 70/80 miles a day, will visit all the Normandy beaches including Omaha and Arromanches, before laying a wreath at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
Among the riders will be teams of wounded servicemen from Headley Court - the rehabilitation centre for Britain's wounded servicemen and women.
Alastair, who lives in Haverfordwest, said he has already started training for his upcoming ride.
"I'm really looking forward to it and, although it will be a challenge - France is not flat - it's nothing compared to what our servicemen and women are facing in current conflicts," he said.
"I will be riding alongside brave men and women, whose lives have changed forever through their injuries."
Help for Heroes aims to raise money for servicemen and women injured in conflicts around the world. Since it was launched in 2007 it has raised £1m a month.
