Tenby's all-weather lifeboat was called out, along with the police boat and RAF rescue helicopter 169, after two kayaks were reported overdue shortly after 7 pm last Thursday.

They were known to be between Freshwater East and Freshwater West earlier in the day.

The Tamar searched from Lydstep past Freshwater East and carried on searching until it met the police boat which had come from Dale.

Neither boat had spotted the kayaks, nor had the helicopter.

As the search units were deciding what to do next, news came via the coastguard that the kayaks had been found safe ashore at Freshwater East. All units returned to station.
