An air, land and sea search was launched on Tuesday evening after a windsurfer was reported to be in difficulty off Caldey Island. The alarm was raised by a member of the public at approximately 5.45 pm and both Tenby's inshore lifeboat and the all-weather lifeboat, the RFA Sir Galahad, together with the town's coastguard team and a helicopter from RAF Chivenor, were called out. However, despite an extensive search by all the units involved, no windsurfer was found in trouble. The search was called off at last light and the call was deemed to be a false alarm with good intent.
