Balmoral, last flagship of the famous P&A Campbell White Funnel fleet and Britain’s most widely travelled coastal cruising vessel, will be sailing from Milford on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 20, 21 and 22.
On her very busy around Britain schedule there are ‘three only’ very special sailings from Milford Haven - thought to be the first in almost 40 years since 1978.
On Tuesday, June 20, there is an afternoon cruise around the wonderful scenic Milford Haven and up the River Cleddau.
On Wednesday, June 21, there is a very special bird watching and nature cruise around wildlife rich waters of Skomer, Skokholm and Grassholm islands. There will be experts onboard giving a running commentary on the vast array of wildlife and birds that will be showcased from the high decks and great visibility offered by a large comfortable ship like Balmoral.
Then, to end her all too short visit, Balmoral will be doing a very special voyage. Thursday, June 22, gives locals and holiday visitors alike the rare opportunity of a splendid sail direct from Milford to the magical island of Lundy, giving almost four hours ashore to explore, discover and enjoy its tranquillity and charm.
Paul Doubler, spokesman for the charity which owns Balmoral, said: “Balmoral’s cruises and unique sailings always prove very popular, and these trips are no exception, with many advanced bookings already taken. Balmoral has a 70-seater restaurant and her famous art deco Britannia Lounge where refreshments are available throughout the voyage. The ship even has its own special bottled real ale! So just bring yourselves for what promises to be three exceptional days of sailing from glorious Milford Haven.”
While in days gone by North Wales and the especially the Bristol Channel was well-known for its many pleasure steamers, Balmoral is now the last of her kind with such a full and popular sailing programme. Balmoral visits bring a considerable boost to the local tourist industry. It is hoped these cruises will prove very popular and that Balmoral can return to build on this visit in 2018.
Her 2017 timetable is packed full of popular trips and cruises with a full summer season on the Bristol Channel, two sessions on the fabulous North Wales coast and Liverpool and the Isle of Man. Also Scotland, the Western Isles and the River Clyde.
