A notice of motion has been put to Pembrokeshire County Council this week by a local county councillor asking for two properties on The Norton in Tenby to be developed for an affordable housing scheme.

Clr. Mike Evans feels that with the issue raised in the area pointing to a lack of affordable housing to meet local needs, the two buildings in The Norton - Roseville and Mayville - would meet the needs required for such a scheme, whilst also achieving fair value for the county council.

In his notice of motion put forward to a full meeting of the council at Haverfordwest's County Hall yesterday (Thursday), Clr. Evans references the Community Plan for Pembrokeshire which identifies the development of vibrant communities as a key priority.

"Why leave these buildings vacant for the next five to 10 years, when there is a prime opportunity to bring these empty homes back into use," Clr. Evans told the Observer.

"There is a desperate need for affordable housing in the area and if county council were to actively seek a partner to develop these properties with, it would set a good example, while advantage could also be taken of the extra monies announced by the Welsh Assembly Government to meet such needs," he added.

The two properties in The Norton were formerly occupied as hostels.
