TENBY COMMUNITY FRIDGE
Please note that the Old Chapel, and thus the café and the community fridge, is currently closed, but will open again on Tuesday (January 4).
HOW MANY PEGS?
This is something to play throughout a day or evening when there are a few of you around. Allocate everyone the same number of clothes pegs and get them to mark them with their initials or something so you can tell whose is who. Now, see how many pegs you can attach to other people without them noticing. You might need to decide on a time limit for how long the peg needs to stay on a person without them noticing for it to count.
TENBY EDIBLE GARDEN
In the new year, Pembrokeshire National Park and Mind are running a project called Roots to Recovery which will be helping in the garden – hopefully building some raised beds and wildlife homes, so watch this space, and keep your eye on the garden to see what is happening. Remember, you can go along and do a bit of gardening any time you like, there are tools in the box behind the park bench, and it is much appreciated. There is often someone there on a Monday, it will be more likely to be in the morning from now on.
Salt resist painting.
For this you need some tape, paint and salt. Make a pattern on some paper with the tape – maybe a Christmas tree. Then paint around it, maybe in blue for a wintery sky, and shake on some salt while the paint is still wet. When the paint is dry, take off the sticky tape and your tree will stand out against a snowy sky ready to be decorated as you wish. Simple but very effective!
POETRY IN THE PARK
This was held last Sunday and as it is so chilly at the moment, was in the Old Chapel in the warm! Several people came to share poetry, from TS Eliot’s Macavity: The Mystery Cat, and Journey of the Magi, to Alan Ahlberg’s Please Mrs Butler, and everyone enjoyed hearing them. The next meeting will be on Sunday 16th January at 3pm. Everyone is welcome to come along.
GET STARRY EYED
When we have some clear cold nights, it is a great time to do a little stargazing. Can you see the difference between a twinkling star and a satellite moving purposefully across the sky? A shooting star will fade away. A planet shines brightly without twinkling, and can be a slightly different colour (Mars has a slightly reddish glow). Look for the Plough or Big Dipper – it looks a bit like a giant saucepan. There are lots of other constellations to identify – these used to guide sailors across the world.
Winter walks
Here are a couple of suggestions of walks to try. Walk from one beach round to the other, maybe doing a circuit of Castle Hill while you are at it. Wander up from the Norton to Allen’s View and have a winter picnic. Walk up Slippery Back to the cemetery for a great view out over the bay. Walk from Queen’s Parade out past the Golf Club to Black Rock and then back or on to South Beach or the other way to Penally. Please could people send in suggestions for other short local walks, maybe in Saundersfoot or Kilgetty or other local areas?
COWS AND BULLS
This is a game for two players with pen and paper. Each player thinks of a 4-digit number, such as 6582, with no repeated digits. Now take turns trying to guess the other person’s number. After each guess, you get told how many cows (right number in the right place) and how many bulls (right number in the wrong place). So, a guess of 6723 for the above number would have one cow (6) and one bull (2). Keep taking turns until someone guesses the number correctly.
DON’T SING IN THE SHOWER!
Well, do if you want to, but try and have a short shower! The average shower is seven minutes, but it is possible to have a good wash in just two minutes. If we all did that, it would save a lot of water which is great for the environment. Maybe you could sing in the rain instead!
