A clarion call is going out to the people of Tenby for their help in ensuring the resort maintains its status as the floral resort of Wales and the jewel in Pembrokeshire’s crown.
“With the continued squeeze on their budgets, it is becoming clearer that, with the best will in the world, Pembrokeshire County Council is no longer going to be able to maintain standards to those we, and our visitors, have come to expect and the town deserves,” explained chairman of Tenby in Bloom, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
“It is vital that people take pride in our town and come forward to become involved and help Tenby Town Council and Tenby in Bloom plug the gap or our standards may suffer,” she added
Clr. Mrs. Lane said it was becoming more obvious that, under the continuing austerity regime, more reliance was being placed on volunteers to bolster public sector provision, particularly when it came to “cleaning and greening”.
“My motto for the year is that ‘actions speak louder than weeds’, and we need the people of the town, both private individuals and those in local businesses or organisations, to work together and get involved,” she continued.
“Even if you can only offer an hour a week, we would like to hear from you.”
While the resort was entered into Wales and Britain in Bloom competitions, Clr. Mrs. Lane stressed that it was vitally important that the town looked good throughout the year, and not just for competition judging weeks.
“Visitors to the town expect it to look in tip-top condition whenever they come, so it is vital that everyone takes responsibility and gives as much support as they can to ensure that our standards do not slip,” she said.
With this in mind, Tenby in Bloom is launching its 2016 campaign in the De Valence Pavilion at 6 pm on Monday (March 21).
“We would love everyone who is proud of this town and feels they can help in any way to come along so we can share and discuss ideas and devise a plan of action,” Clr. Mrs. Lane added.
