An 86-year-old woman from Kilgetty died in a road traffic collision after suffering an undetermined medical emergency, a coroner's inquest heard last week.

Beryl Anowah Marsh, of Kingsmoor Close, was driving along the A477 between Broadmoor and Redberth, on August 13 of last year, shortly after 1.30 pm, when the Vauxhall Corsa she was driving collided with another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction, causing her to sustain fatal injuries.

Coroner's officer for Dyfed Powys Police, Jeremy Davies, explained at the inquest held at Milford Haven Town Hall, that Mrs. Marsh had previously suffered with breathlessness and chest pains.

"The driver of the other vehicle involved in the RTC said that he could see Mrs. Marsh slumped over the steering wheel of her car before they collided," said Mr. Davies.

A report from a police collision investigator explained that the weather conditions had been fine that day, with good visibility.

Several other motorists who had seen the collision gave witness statements to say that Mrs. Marsh's vehicle had suddenly veered into the other lane of oncoming traffic.

A vehicle examination carried out on both cars involved found no defects present in either which would have caused an accident.

A post-mortem examination gave no evidence that could confirm whether Mrs. Marsh had sustained some form of medical emergency whilst driving prior to the collision.

Coroner Mr. Layton gave a narrative conclusion that Mrs. Marsh appeared to have suffered an undetermined medical event causing her to lose control of her vehicle, which resulted in a road traffic collision that caused her death.
