Councillors in Tenby have said that a ‘walkabout’ with Pembrokeshire County Council’s access officer had proved useful.
The authority’s access officer, Alan Hunt, and local mobility scooter user, Mrs. Maureen Ward, met with members of the town council last week to pinpoint areas where additional dropped kerbs could be installed in the town.
The walkabout also looked at other issues that restrict access for those with mobility problems and parents with prams, including A-frames and illegal parking on pavements.
Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas said that it was a ‘very interesting’ exercise and was hopeful that improvements to access could be made in Tenby.
“Mr. Hunt said that there were some quick fix solutions, and ideally if he had a bottomless pit of funding he would do what he could,” said the town clerk, Andrew Davies.
Clr. Paul Rapi said that he was unloading his car near Frog Street on the weekend, and noticed a person on a mobility scooter struggling to get onto the pavement.
“The biggest problem in Tenby is that the kerbs are far too high,” he said.
