Hywel Dda NHS Trust health chiefs have thanked staff who made extraordinary efforts to get into work during the recent bad weather.

Across the Trust in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, staff went above and beyond the call of duty in order to ensure Trust services continued to be delivered to patients.

Several members of staff who live close to the Trust's four acute hospitals changed shifts or cancelled annual and study leave in order to cover for those who live further afield and couldn't make it through the snow. Many walked to work, with others sharing lifts, and some staff even stayed in hospitals overnight to ensure they were available for duty the next day.

Chief executive Martin Turner said: "We have been hearing stories from across the Trust about staff who displayed a commitment well above and beyond the call or duty.

"It is thanks to the efforts of our staff that services for patients remained largely uninterrupted, and for this they should be very proud."

Chairman Chris Martin added: "I would like to thank all staff for their exceptional dedication and spirit of teamwork during this winter period.

"We are aware that staff are working extremely hard to care for patients and to ensure good services continue to be delivered at times when they are needed the most."
