A sunny afternoon was shared by many visitors and local residents in the village of Amroth last Sunday as Macmillan Cancer Support, in partnership with the Amroth Arms, held a musical beach party. The afternoon was a great success, largely down to the amazing performance of the group Tempus, who provided a wide repertoire of their songs from Abba, The Beatles, music from the musicals and so much more. They really are a class act, with many individual star performances. Their lively choral numbers encouraged people to join in as the music reverberated round the village. The organising committee were very grateful to Tempus for volunteering their time and energy for the afternoon; it really was very much appreciated. Together with the music, everyone present was treated to a hog roast, courtesy of the Amroth Arms, and to top it all, the weather stayed fine and sunny. A raffle was drawn during the afternoon, with many excellent prizes, all provided from local businesses. Macmillan Cancer Support Committee and helpers worked hard in selling raffle tickets before the event and on the day, helping with the serving of the food. Grateful thanks are given for the fantastic support of local people and many regular visitors to the area, who not only attended the event, but also gave generously in the buying of raffle tickets. The first prize was a weekend for two at Moreton House, Saundersfoot, while there was also day tickets to Folly Farm, Oakwood and the Dinosaur Park, Sunday lunch for two at St. Brides and at Lisa's Restaurant, Telpyn. Other prizes included an Andrew Price cut and blow dry, a beautiful hand-made and embroidered cushion and a personal hour of Hatha yoga. Macmillan would like to thank all the local businesses for their generous support. Over £1,500 was collected for this very worthy cause. The organisers hope to hold the same event on the same weekend in 2009, Sunday, July 19, so put the date in your diary and come and enjoy a fantastic musical afternoon on the beach. Macmillan's up and coming events are on August 5 - home-made Welsh cakes on Saundersfoot harbour and a raffle crawl in Amroth (New Inn/ Amroth Arms) with a first prize of a week's holiday for six at any resort in Wales, England or Scotland from Seasons Holidays, ending up with a Curry Night on Saturday, September 20, when the raffle will be drawn.
