Christmas began at Carew Wesley with carols by candlelight, when the chapel was packed for an evening of carols, readings and instrumental solos. The £250 raised was sent to the underprivileged young people of Zimbabwe, where we have recently heard from Abraham Mwadiwa, the youth leader there. Abraham has recently escaped from Zimbabwe, because of the pressures of the present government. He is planning to work from South Africa, until he can receive an entry permit into his own country. The Christingle service was well attended, with the many candles illuminating the crib and the many Christmas scenes, beautifully portrayed by the ladies of the chapel. The service and communion service that followed was conducted by the Rev. Anthony Gregory. The Sunday before Christmas was the Sunday School's day, when the young people presented two nativity plays to another packed congregation. Sincere thanks are given to the teachers, Sharon, Graham and Carol, for training the young people to give such a quality performance. And so to Christmas Eve when the well attended congregation awaited the lighting of the Christmas candle, and in the quietness of that beautiful service, Christ came again to all present. The service was conducted by Rev. Anthony Gregory. On Christmas morning, a large congregation shared in a service led by Miss Sharon Knox. This service of adoration and worship for our New Born King, was a typical Sharon service, with her ability of bringing the old and young together in a real service of praise. We wish Sharon and Owain all happiness as they are married in the chapel on Tuesday. During the Christmas celebrations, the Youth Club leaders and members have been carol singing for the National Children's Homes, and with the help of Sue and John Shaw and Melvin Hicks, the total has already passed £600. The Youth Club thanks the generous people of the parish of Carew, for their kindness and the welcome they gave to the carol singers. Services for this Sunday (New Year's Day): There will be a family service at 10 am, led by Mr. Graham Hobbs and members of the Sunday School. The chapel is open each day, 10 am to 4 pm, for prayer and meditation, and a prayer sheet is open in the chapel porch for anyone needing prayerful support. A warm Christian welcome is extended to all, to share in church and chapel services held in the parish of Carew.
