A new woodland walk has been created on the neglected south side of Upton Castle gardens incorporating a pond, activity trail, seating areas and a shelter.

The Upton Woodland Scheme is a joint project between the owners of Upton Castle and Green Links CIC and was part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government and is a component element of the Countryside Council for Wales' communities and nature strategic project.

This project provided work experience and volunteering opportunities for disadvantaged young people and adults, enabling them to gain skills in path building, tree planting, carpentry and woodland management.

This successful project was a result of an innovative collaboration between Upton Castle and Green Links CIC, a Pembroke-based social enterprise with a wealth of expertise and experience in the training and volunteering sector.

Reuben Williams and Karen Houser managed the project for Green Links and together with volunteers from Pembrokeshire COASTAL and the Pupil Referral Unit, created the beautiful new Walk on the Wild Side at Upton Castle.
