Business whizzkids from Pembrokeshire College have earned a whooping £600 for Barnardo's Cymru as part of the BIS project.

The savvy business studies students at the Haverfordwest campus ran a business for a year offering secretarial services to other students. They also ran raffles and organised fund-raising events and in the course of their business turned a £120 start-up grant into almost £1,000, of which the lion's share goes to Barnardo's Cymru.

It is the fifth year in a row that Pembrokeshire College business students have taken part in the BIS scheme, and once again their team has come through with flying colours.

Barnardo's Cymru fund-raiser Jane Elliot said: "The Pembrokeshire College business studies students have really excelled at the BIS scheme. Every year they produce spectacular results, and this year is no exception.

"Their hard-earned money will now go to support Barnardo's in West Wales as it works to give disadvantaged children a better future. It will support the work of the Yo-Yo family Centre in Pembroke Dock as well as the Pembrokeshire Family Link scheme which provides support to disabled children and their families."

Under the BIS scheme the students get £120 start-up capital and 75 per cent of the company's profits are donated to Barnardo's Cymru.

In recognition of the hard work the Pembrokeshire College students have put in over the years, Barnardo's Cymru head of fund-raising John Bennett will visit them along with fund-raiser Jane Elliot to offer them a personal thank you and present them with certificates.

A project worker from Barnardo's Pembrokeshire Family Links service will also visit the college on Tuesday, May 25, to talk to the students about the charity's work with disabled children.

"We want the students to know that we are very grateful to them for all their efforts and we want them to know exactly where their money is going and how it is helping to give children a better future."
