Sir,
The management team at the De Valence Theatre in Tenby certainly landed a super rock 'n' roll show when they booked 'Rockin' On Heaven's Door'. A sell-out audience were treated to a wonderful evening of classic songs which were sung by some of the country's top tribute performers. The evening bounced into action with the Big Bopper being first on stage. He soon had everyone singing and clapping along to golden oldies such as Chantilli Lace. Eddie Cochran soon followed with his renderings of Twenty Flight Rock and Come On Everybody. His body swerves and gyrating movements had some of the female members of the audience screaming with approval. By the time Buddy Holly came onto stage, feet were tapping and bodies swaying as memories of his great songs came flooding back. One group of ladies, who had been swaying along to the music, could not contain their feelings anymore; they were up and dancing alongside of the stage. The first half of the show concluded with an amazing and realistic tribute to Roy Orbison. So perfect was the voice match that if you closed your eyes and listened you would think that Roy was there in front of you. The majority of the second half of the show was dedicated to the king himself, Elvis Presley. It would have been easy to imagine that you had been transported back in time to watch Elvis in Las Vegas. Most of Presley's movements, gestures and antics were captured, right down to the stage front queue of ladies waiting for a kiss. Towards the end of the show, the whole of the company came on stage and sang a range of lively numbers. These resulted in many people getting up and dancing in the area set aside. This show was certainly a big hit with the audience. It has been enjoying a successful nationwide tour, so it was a real coup for the De Valence team. The nightclub layout of chairs and tables spaced around the theatre worked well. A friendly, intimate and relaxed atmosphere was created and appreciated. It was pleasing to see the theatre so well supported, although numbers were obviously boosted by holiday visitors. Well done De Valence, more of the same please.
