Sir, I sympathise with plumber, Phil Whittaker, over the serious problems he faces while working in Tenby during pedestrianisation. However, although those residents with off-street parking welcome the concessions that reduce last year's extreme stress, they are by no means claiming victory. I and many others have long lists of difficulties that pedestrianisation has caused, but Mr. Whittaker's letter inspires me to relate my plumber story as a small example. I had a plumbing emergency on a Friday afternoon. An enterprising plumber kindly attended on foot, with his tools in a wheelbarrow. Unfortunately, he could not have anticipated the exact equipment he would need for the job and so had to wheel his barrow back out of town to collect the necessary item. I had to bear the cost of nearly an hour's extra labour. While tempted to send the bill to Pembrokeshire County Council, I have decided not to waste my time. After all, plumber Peter Kidney tells me that the county council has advised him to use the Park-and-Ride and pass parking costs onto the client!

Marion Hutton,

Lexden House, St. Julian Street, Tenby.
