Sir,

It was an extra pleasure to read last week's Observer, as there were so many reports of good things happening in the local communities. It was good to note the efforts made by the staff of Trubloc in providing sponsorship of a guide dog. There were also reports of other charitable presentations.

Then there was a long list of music exam successes, and an indication of all the hard work and local talent that had gone into the Saundersfoot Footlights' production of Show Boat.

Finally, the usual sports reports and comments reminded me of the dedication shown by so many people, young and not-so-young, who turn out week after week in all weathers, to play or watch their favourite games.

What a shame, then, that you had to use, as your main front page item, a report on the anti-social behaviour of a small minority of drunken youths, most of whom do not live in the local community. Unfortunately, it is now a predictable follow-up to bank holidays, so is it really necessary to give it such prominence?

D. J. Gwynn,

A small minority it may have been, but the 140 incidents dealt with by the police was considerably up on the same time last year and affected many local people. Police have also asked for our continued help in highlighting the problems that occur - Editor.
