Sir,
Plans submitted in respect of the development of the Gatehouse, Royal Lion and Delphi sites have met with objections from the local council. For that they are to be given our congratulations.
Bear in mind that as soon as a plan is accepted, there will be no retreat. As soon as the whistle blows, what of your 'tourism status?'. Imagine a repeat of the previous Gatehouse debacle and multiply it greatly. Just for a start, imagine partial or complete stoppage of The Norton, White Lion Street, High Street, Upper Frog Street, Deer Park, South Parade and Park Road. Probably at the same time, with no time limit.
If not laid down by the planning committees, the town would have no control of the scheme. The schemes must be detailed and specified, more to the point, severe financial penalties stipulated for non-comforming or non-achievement by the developers.
The townspeople should also be asking details on development of two other sites, the old Cottage Hospital site and the St. Catherine's Fort. What have the planning committees in mind for inclusion as 'Best for Tenby?'.
Ivor Jenkins,
Cheshire.
