The musical landscape of Pembrokeshire would not be the same without Côr Dyfed Choir. On reaching the milestone of its 50th year, the choir will celebrate by holding a series of events, beginning with an exciting concert at St. Peter’s Church, Goodwick, on Saturday, November 12, at 7.30 pm.
John S Davies, the choir’s founder, will share the conductor’s rostrum with the present leader, Oliver Waterer. Between them they will present a varied programme, ranging from works by Handel, Haydn, Hubert Parry and Brahms to more recently composed pieces by Welsh composers William Mathias, Meirion Wyn Jones and Geraint Lewis. The organist Simon Pearce will accompany the choir.
Two specially commissioned pieces: The Enchanted Isle by Samuel Howley with text taken from Shakespeare’s Tempest, and Cofio by Andrew Cusworth, a setting of Waldo Williams’s famous poem, will be premiered. They will be accompanied by harpist Llywelyn Ifan Jones and the Cwm Cerwyn String Quartet.
Hearing the compositions of such exceptionally talented local musicians promises to be the highlight of an unmissable concert and a fitting celebration of 50 years of music-making.
Tickets £10 (including post-concert refreshments) available at the door and at Seaways Bookshop, Fishguard.
