Having been elected as Mayor of Whitland in May of this year, my husband and I have had a very busy time attending a variety of functions for and on behalf of Whitland Town Council, travelling as far as Llandovery for a presentation by the RAF, and Carmarthen and Narberth for the Mayor's Charity Ball. We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people, making some very good new friends and making new ties with the wider community. As a town, Whitland has seen quite a bit of movement this year, with Brains opening their new depot on the industrial estate, the opening of Pocket Park, by St. Marys Church, new shops opening, bringing more new business into the town (all of whom we wish every success for the future) and, of course, the building of new housing estates. At this point, I would like to reassure residents that Whitland town councillors are in office to serve and support your community. The time taken at our meetings has extended considerably, due to the large volume of matters arising and planning applications being received. All issues are discussed and usually brought to a satisfactory conclusion. May I also congratulate Mr. Newsome, his staff and all the pupils at Dyffryn Taf School for receiving an excellent Estyn report this year. A positive result for the school and the community. Well done. And congratulations should also be extended to Whitland Primary School for the awards, too numerous to mention, that they have received over the last year. Another positive result for the school and the community. Well done. All this, again, highlights the excellent amenities that Whitland has to offer new residents moving into the area and the vital part they play in regenerating our town. In the meantime, may I, on behalf of my family and fellow councillors, wish you all a happy and healthy New Year.
