Sir,
It was disappointing to read the gloating of Mollie Neate, in last week's issue, regarding the recent referendum of extended powers for the Welsh Assembly.
Even more surprising and disappointing were her unwarranted comments about the people of Monmouthshire.
Having been born and brought up in Monmouthshire, I can assure Mrs. Neate that I am a totally committed Welshman, maybe more so than many of the residents of 'Little England beyond Wales,' and remind her that many Monmouthshire natives have made huge contributions to the wellbeing of this county, not only Wales.
Would we have had a Health Service had it not been for a Monmouthshire man?
I make no secret of my 'No' vote last week, as I regard the Assembly to be an expensive waste of money and feel quite strongly that the money could be better spent improving our education, health and road systems. I also appreciate that it is only my opinion.
Maybe a little humility would have been better than the gloating and insults to which we were subjected.
R. A. Parsons,
Saundersfoot.
