The summer term is set to end very happily for busy performing arts students at Pembrokeshire College.

Their summer show production will be Happy End, a melodrama with songs, based on the book by Dorothy Lane, with music by Kurt Weill and Lyrics by Bertolt Brecht.

The show's 'happy end' will be the culmination of a hectic build up for the Merlin Theatre Company, which has had just 18 college days in which to put the show together.

"This is the tightest production schedule we've ever worked to in the college," said director, Simon Haslam. "The students are working flat out from 9 am until 4 pm every day - even lunch breaks are used to discuss progress! We've been lucky enough to secure sponsorship from Texaco, Buffers Cleaning, Peggy Munt, Ann Haslam, Barnlake Dog Training Centre and Huw Williams Roofing - but no amount of money can buy us time."

However, thanks to the hard work of the students, production is bang on target for the show's opening night. Happy End will run from May 31 to June 3 at the Merlin Theatre, Pembrokeshire College. Performances start at 7.30 pm.

"The setting is Chicago in 1919, just before the days of prohibition," Simon Haslam added. "The story pits the Salvation Army against the murky world of organised crime. It has something for everyone - drama, music and an element of suspense."

Tickets cost £5 (or £4.50 for concessions) and can be booked by calling the box office on 01437 753100.
