It was an important day for the community of Saundersfoot last Friday, as the official grand opening for the village's new Regency Hall was held.

The sun shone brightly as the Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, the Hon. Robin Lewis, honoured all those present by cutting the tape and unveiling a plaque commemorating the occasion.

It was quite a poignant occasion as his father, Lord Merthyr, opened the original Regency Hall in June 1960.

Following the demolition of the old building, the newly-constructed £1.4m Regency Hall offers meeting rooms, library and IT suite, youth and children's areas, leisure, educational activities and services for both locals and visitors, along with state-of-the-art theatre, concert and film-show facilities.

Dignitaries, local and county councillors, and other invited guests attended the opening of the new building, including the chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. Arwyn Williams, and the CEO of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Tegrin Jones, along with representatives of the Regency Hall's major funders, the Lottery and PLANED.

Local 12-year-old schoolgirl Charlotte Rees, who won the logo competition and was informed of her success at Saundersfoot's NYDS, came on crutches to unveil her plaque, after suffering an accident a few weeks ago. The logo will be on show as a stained glass display in the hall.

A buffet lunch was enjoyed by all who attended the opening and at 2 pm the hall was opened up to residents of the village, with over 300 people going along on the day to look at the new community centre, giving it rave reviews.
