NOVEMBER 29 sees the start of a period of thanksgiving for the Ministry of the Rev. Nanette Lewis-Head, of St. Johns Church, Tenby.
Nanette is due to retire at the end of January and the church, with various other organisations, is planning a series of events in tribute.
The first of these is a celebration concert in the church at 7.30 pm on Saturday, November 29. The choir of St. Johns have enlisted the help of The Griffon Choir, St. Mary's Church Choir and the Mezin Quartet, plus friends, to produce a programme of music for the occasion. The concert will culminate in a performance of The Gloria by Vivaldi.
Nanette came to Pembrokeshire in 1998 from Merthyr Tydfil, where she had been a minister for 18 years, and joined the South Pembrokeshire pastorate as minister of St. Johns.
She integrated into the life of the locality, serving as a magistrate and being very involved with the restructuring of the URC and Methodist district.
She is noted for her devotion to her calling, particularly with the pastoral visiting to members and friends.
Over the last two years, Nanette has assumed responsibility for additional churches, ranging from Amroth and Narberth to Pembroke. This has resulted in much additional travelling and preaching at three locations on most Sundays. She enjoys singing and music and encourages young people to participate in the life of the church through musical involvement. It is fitting that tributes should thus be based on this theme.
During the lead-up to Christmas, there will be a number of special carol services and in the new year, the musical theme will continue with an evening of hymn singing based on Nanette's favourite hymns. This event, on January 11, will be led by the Tenby Male Choir as Nanette has for a number of years served as their chaplain.
