Despite all the doom-laden news about COVID-19, 32 optimistic walkers met in Upper Park Road, Tenby. Paul explained the club’s plans to continue walking, albeit with a reduced programme, before starting the pre-walk briefing.
Then formalities complete, Paul supported by Chris, led the Speedies down Park Road. Barbara followed behind, backed by Phil and Donna, at the head of the Steadies. Marlene led the ever cheerful Steadies-2 group up Park Road for a short version of the Sea Views walk.
When the Speedies and Steadies arrived at the Green their paths diverged. The Steadies turned left and headed for Kiln Park and Black Rock.
The Speedies went through Merlin’s Court and headed for Butt’s Field and North Cliff. Continuing up the Coast Path they soon reached Allen’s View.
Everyone was happy to stop for a few minutes after the energetic climb. They had a fabulous view over the town as far as Gilltar Head.
The sun was shining by now and Tenby positively twinkled in the spring sunshine.
The walkers couldn’t make out the Steadies who had turned at Black Rock and were walking steadily back towards the town.
Returning back down the steps from Allen’s View, the Speedies soon arrived at the Scout and Guide Hall.
The Trefoil Guild coffee morning was in full swing and the hall was very busy.
The other two groups were there ahead of them, making serious inroads into the home-made cakes on offer.
After the raffle had been drawn, the committee members and walk leaders held a short meeting to agree the club’s response to the current virus epidemic. As a result, the Wednesday Health walks and the Thursday Nordic walks are suspended until further notice.
The Saturday walks will continue in town only, starting from Upper Park Road at 10.30. Further details of the temporary arrangements can be found on the club website at www.steps2health.org.uk
